Big Change Coming to PRF Lease Requirements for 2026

Heads Up, Ranchers! Big Change Coming to PRF Lease Requirements for 2026

Just a quick heads-up — there’s a major change we need to get ahead of. Starting with the December 1, 2025, acreage report deadline (for the 2026 crop year), all lease or lease certification forms must be signed and turned in before that date. In the past, producers did not have to submit a copy of the leases at the time of application and acreage reporting. So, it’s important to start pulling your papers now.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Leases need to have utilization dates effective for the crop year.

  • Land has to be owned or leased and within your county (including any contiguous acres).

  • If a lease ends after the report date because the landlord made a decision, insurance can still keep going through the crop year or rights can be transferred — just let us know.

Why wait? Get started early — don’t wait until the last minute and risk delays or coverage issues. If you need a blank lease agreement to take to your landlord, we can easily get one for you from our underwriting partners. Just ask!

Quick reminder on subsidies: If you’re a beginning or veteran farmer/rancher, your premium discount can be increased — the points depend on how many years you've been farming. And if you’re both, your subsidy will be at least as high as a beginning farmer’s.

Don’t delay — contact us today to get your lease forms sorted out and ready to go! We’re here to help you through the process.
